Shadows of the Canal reconstructs a former military testing ground along the Panama Canal as a series of immersive digital environments and spatial design, built entirely from scratch using 3D modeling and Unreal Engine.
Instead of documenting history, the work translates it into spatial scenes. A speculative 6.7-mile corridor is designed as a sequence of atmospheres, concealed terrain, cratered fields, synthetic wetlands, and elevated observation paths, each evoking hidden violence and instability.
Through terrain sculpting, asset composition, and real-time rendering, the project focuses on lighting, materiality, and controlled visibility to choreograph movement and perception. Fog, occlusion, and fragmented sightlines create disorientation. The environment becomes a medium where memory is not explained, but experienced.
