2024 Spring Core Studio IV STU 1212
Instructor: Belinda Tato
The project explores how the materiality and ephemerality of space create an atmosphere: rainwater temperature, sun rays, mist, canopies, and snow to foster environmental and infrastructural dialogue. The project tackles the issue of extreme duality of climate, underserved communities of the Bunker Hill Housing Redevelopment, and the underused space of Mystic Greenway.
The project prioritizes climate legibility as not only a form on the ground but also tactile engagement with water, snow, and heat to address the extreme duality of climate, creating space for climatic comfort, playfulness, and legibility for underserved communities in Charlestown. Thinking about the duality of function for ground infrastructure and reusing the ground rainwater in extreme storm events, the project utilizes the same ground system to create dual climatic experiences.
